Your dog could become the star of an opera in Dublin

An international opera company has one role left to fill in their production of La Boheme at the Helix in Dublin - a dog.

Not just any dog, this pooch must be "the canine equivalent of Brad Pitt or Scarlett Johansson" and they are looking for Irish dogowners to volunteer their beloved pets for the part.

Take Kipper the pug, for instance, who is now a doggie supermodel after doing a Cara Delevigne transition into acting as Musetta's dog in the cafe scene at Birmingham's New Alexandra Theatre this autumn.

He's been on the front page of Attitude Magazine and has recently done a shoot for Primark.

The fashionable pooch is also a local celeb in Birmingham with thousands of Instagram followers.

Award-winning opera director and producer Ellen Kent explained how it all started: "The first time was 20 years ago when my pet cat Holly Go-Lightly was in one of my productions and was an instant hit."

"Since then we’ve had horses, goldfish and even a golden eagle with a 6ft wingspan on stage."

Don't worry, they take good care of the animals. Gerry, the Golden Eagle, from the clip above even got his own dressing room and was never far from his handler.

Last year, they had two donkeys in Bizet's Carmen.

The four-legged thespians even deigned to give an interview before the opening.

If you want an idea of what's needed from your dog, check out this clip of La Boheme from a couple of years ago where you can see the lucky pup 30 seconds in.

If you're afraid your pet will get stage fright, don't worry, you'll be up there onstage in full costume to look after them.

They even consider rescue dogs, as Ellen says: “When we last did La Boheme and asked local people to volunteer their pets it was a huge success. We even used a rescue dog once and found him dozens of new owners.”

All they ask is that you send a photo of your dog, which needs to be well-behaved and small, to jules@ellenkent.co.uk with your contact number and address as well as the breed, height, weight, age and name of your pet.

The show starts on Sunday, November 6, so you'd better hurry as they will be chossing the succesful applicant a week before the performance.
