What would you do with 10,000 Lance Armstrong DVDs?

Tea coasters, extreme frisbees or wind chimes – one businessman needs to offload quite a few discs.

What would you do with 10,000 Lance Armstrong DVDs?

An entrepreneur is looking for suggestions from the public for the best use of 10,000 Lance Armstrong DVDs he bought as a job lot before the cyclist was unveiled as a drugs cheat.

Karl Baxter, director of Dorset-based Wholesale Clearance UK Ltd, said he bought the DVDs – The Science Of Lance Armstrong – from his supplier last summer, before rumours of the seven-times Tour de France winner’s doping became public knowledge.

Mr Baxter, 36, said he was hoping to sell the discs through his wholesaleclearance.co.uk website for up to £3 each, but is now facing the prospect of having to recycle them.

Speaking from his office in Bournemouth, Mr Baxter said: “There had been rumours about Armstrong for two decades, so I didn’t think it was much of a risk buying the DVDs.

“I was sold them in good faith, but now it appears that I have got 10,000 DVDs that nobody wants.

“It’s one of those things in business, sometimes this sort of thing will happen. But it seems to me as though Lance Armstrong stock is pretty toxic now.”

Armstrong’s reputation as one of the most gifted cyclists of all time was shattered last year when the US Anti-Doping Agency confirmed his drug use.

The DVD itself was released in 2006 and said it aimed to lift the lid on the “secrets behind (Armstrong’s) success”.

Mr Baxter said the DVDs are currently stacked up on three pallets in his business’s Poole warehouse.

“We are trying to think of a creative use for them,” he said.

“They will make good tea coasters, wind chimes or bird scarers.

“I’m sure someone will come up with a good idea for them, even if it’s not the use originally intended.”
