"We can't buy you lost sleep, so at least let us pick up lunch"

Journalists at the Boston Globe had a tough week. Their colleagues at the Chicago Tribune decided to send them pizza.

"We can't buy you lost sleep, so at least let us pick up lunch"

"You make us all pround to be journalists."

It's been a week of intense emotion for the people of Boston, not least for the men and women of the press whose job it was to report on the events that engulfed their city.

At the forefront of that reporting, from the moment the peace of Monday April 15 was shattered, was city newspaper the Boston Globe, which has earned near-universal plaudits for its accurate, responsible and clear-headed journalism even as Boston was embroiled in chaos.

So in recognition of that achievement, one US newsroom reached out to the Boston Globe yesterday with a simple, human gesture to fellow colleague of the fourth estate - they bought them pizza.

This image posted to Twitter by the Globe's Deputy Business Editor Mark Pothier, shows a note handed into the newsroom yesterday from the Chicago Tribune - along with 60 pizzas from local eaterie Pizzeria Regina in Boston's North End..

"To the Boston Globe newsroom," it reads.

“We can only imagine what an exhausting and heartbreaking week it’s been for you and your city.

“But do know your colleagues here in Chicago and across the country stand in awe of your tenacious coverage.”

It was signed “Your friends at the Chicago Tribune.”

According to Pothier, the gesture from fellow pressmen (and women) "made our day".

Nice.
