Just after 12pm yesterday, an emergency call was put in to mountain rescue that a 55-year-old man had been injured in Glendalough.
The man had been out hill-walking with 10 others when he fell and suffered a head laceration. Members of his group looked after him as the Dublin and Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team mobilised and began to trek to their location above the the Glenealo River.
On arriving at the scene, the decision was made to call in the Irish Coast Guard and evacuate the man by helicopter.
Graham Harkness -- a photographer who happened to be hiking nearby - caught the rescue on camera.
The helicopter "Rescue 116" hovers over the valley as the injured man is winched to safety by a crew member. He is understood to be recovering in Tallaght Hospital.
Well done to the Mountain Rescue teams and the Irish Coast Guard!
