The White House Correspondent's dinner is a long-running tradition - since 1920 - and the president usually attends for some light-hearted roasting.
This year, Obama took the opportunity of his speech to present the Comedy Central character Luther from the Key & Peele show as his "anger translator" - saying what the President
means.A deadpan Obama keeps delivering the straight speech and allows his translator to come out with such gems on Fox News, CNN, Hilary Clinton — and wait until 3:30 when Obama loses the run of himself on climate change.
The video clip has been a massive hit online, clocking up 31 million views from the White House's Facebook page alone.
Pundits generally considered the sketch one of the highlights of the five-hour dinner, broadcast live on the US C-Span channel, which was otherwise called "five of C-SPAN's longest hours".
The comedy sketch might seem light-hearted, but taken as a whole, it lampooned the mainstream media's focus on dramatic issues like Ebola and Islamic extremism rather than crucial long-term issues like climate change.
And, elsewhere in the speech, Obama took aim at some key issues on his "f*** it list".
Next year will be Obama's last of these dinners - we can only hope his successor learns a little from his comedic timing.
