Talk to any woman and she'll likely give you an instance when she was catcalled, verbally harassed or told to smile by a stranger when she walked down the street.
But it seems like what happens in New York is on another level.
Shoshana Roberts, an actress, agreed to be filmed as she walked through the streets of Manhattan over the course of ten hours.
Wearing black jeans and a plain black t-shirt, she walked - silently and holding two mics - behind director and the project's creator Rob Bliss who had a Go Pro in his backpack filming what happened.
Over the ten hours, Shoshana was subject to over 100 instances of verbal harassment and that's not counting the winks and whistles. She was also followed for five minutes.
The video is being used to highlight the issue by Hollaback, a campaign dedicated to dealing with street harassment. They note:
“It’s important to keep in mind that is this video only captures verbal harassment, and Rob and Shoshana can attest to the harassment overall falling evenly along race and class lines.”
Shoshana herself added that this day was just like any other for her.
"I’m harassed when I smile and I’m harassed when I don’t. I’m harassed by white men, black men, latino men. Not a day goes by when I don’t experience this."
