VIDEO: Timelapse shows you how to cross Dublin without passing a pub
Ulysses once said: “(A) good puzzle would be cross Dublin without passing a pub.” So publin.ie decided to take on the challenge.
In 2011 Rory McCann, a computer engineer, found what is believed to be the only route possible to do the challenge.
The route starts on the Baggot Street bridge and ends on the North Circular Road. You can see the route below.
Publin’s John Geraghty strapped on a camera and took on the 7.5km route, taking in areas such as Collins Barracks, St Stephen’s Green and the Iveagh Gardens.
The walk took John an hour and 15 minutes in total and he decided to timelapse the video. In contrast to walk the route as normal would have only been roughly 4.3kms and should come in at around 55 minutes total to walk.
John points out in his pieces that there was about 13,000 pubs licensed in 1904 (close to when Ulysses wrote the quote), now there is close to 7,000 in the country so the walk is much easier to do now.
For his next project John plans to touch the door of every pub in Dublin.
That one could take awhile!
