VIDEO: Irish mammy is nearly given a heart attack by wonderful birthday surprise

Brothers Jay and Paul O’Callaghan wanted to do something really special for their mother’s 60th birthday, so they came up with a cunning plan.

The lads live in Canada and were hoping to surprise their mum, Mary, for her special day - which is actually today.

The video was filmed last week so the guys could come in early to make sure their mother wouldn’t suspect a thing.

Jay had been home for Christmas, but Paul hasn't seen their mum for over two years.

The O’Callaghan boys started planning their gift last September and developed a WhatsApp group to plot with the rest of their family, including their dad, Declan.

The guys used their other brother Simon to lure her to his house - having promised her a special birthday breakfast before she departed to her fake present of a night away in Mayo with Declan.

Little did Mary know that her two boys had returned home and were hiding in a huge box, built by their father, in the back garden.

Poor Mary is led to the box and is then given the shock of her life by her sons.

Speaking to breakingnews.ie Jay told of his delight at managing to pull off the surprise.

“It was so hard it a secret as so many people were involved and I was back at Christmas, so it was difficult to avoid the topic and planning,” said Jay.

“It was filmed exactly one week before her birthday. We did that to throw her off any scent she may have picked up!”

We do love Mammy O’Callaghan’s reactions and you can hear her say things like: “I thought it was a fridge or something!” and “We have to keep that and put something into that box.”

That was wasn’t the only present Mary would get as her boys we take her to lunch at the Shelbourne and then bring her to a surprise birthday dinner, where 40 of her friends and family attended.

You can see how emotional it is for Mary to have her boys back home as Paul has lived in Canada for almost 20 years now.

Jay, who lives with his fiancé Aaron in Canada, works as an audience coordinator on a live TV show over there - but does hope to return home to Ireland some day.

Happy Birthday Mammy O’Callaghan! You really do have some brilliant sons.
