Firefighters in Fairfax, Virginia, rushed to the scene of a house fire on July 19 - with one crew member wearing a portable video camera on his helmet.
His team rescued two dogs from the burning building, all captured on video and uploaded by the fire department last night. It's enough the remind us of why we wanted to grow up to be a fireman.
The opening minute is pretty dark, showing the crew kicking in doors and clearing rooms - the flames don't make an appearance until 1:45 - and the video brightens as the flames consume more of the home.
Firefighters rescued two dogs from the fire before abandoning the house - writing if off as "a total loss". Sadly, one of the animals didn't make it, as firefighters were unable to find him before the fire consumed the home.
Apart from the saving of the two animals, the footage shows what it's like entering a blazing building, and the short window of opportunity available. The Fairfax County Fire Department said that more than 60 firefighters eventually came to the scene, and it took longer than 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
