Filmed in the Carrara region of Northern Italy - which is famous for the quality of its marble, this excerpt from Yuri Ancarani's documentary 'Il Capo' on the work of a marble quarry is eerily beautiful.
Huge chunks of the snowy marble are knocked off by heavy machinery but it's all guided by the delicate hand movements of Il Capo - The Chief.
The quarry boss almost looks like a opera conductor as he directs his workers to carefully - and then dramatically - free the slabs of marble from the mountainside.
Ancarani told Nowness.com that he was taken by watching the chief work:
“How he can move gigantic marble blocks using enormous excavators, but his own movements are light, precise and determined."
It's an art.
