Feminism: undoubtedly one of the most talked about, and misunderstood, socio-political issues of the generation.

When we’re talking about a concept resulting from the inequality that has plagued humanity throughout history, it’s hardly surprising that everyone’s opinion on – and experiences of – the subject are different.

And that’s just why it has been so interesting to see #IAmAFeminist trending all day. So here are some of the reasons why people today are standing up for feminism.

Because they understand that there is still serious inequality in the world…

Even though people of all genders can do even the coolest jobs, equally as well…

Because we are still fighting against gender roles ingrained in the social psyche…

But because, even more importantly, freedom means being able to make our own choices, whatever they happen to be…

Because we are still battling against preconceptions…

No matter who they are about…

Because how does anything other than that even make sense?

To address the fact that there are some forms of inequality in the world that are seriously hurting some gender groups…

Or are at least undermining them…

Even if some people chose to address them in a slightly cheeky way…

Because we owe so much to the people throughout history who have fought against these issues…

And because we still hope for more improvements that will make the world a better and more equal place…

And because, despite the inevitable trolls that have tried to get in the way of the day’s discussion, there are times when just being able to share our thoughts makes us feel like this:
