This is what your tummy does to a cheeseburger

What happens when you chow down on a tasty, tasty burger?

Well, this - but it's not pretty.

Scientists over at the Periodic Table to Videos took some concentrated hydrochloric acid - which is the same stuff you carry around in your stomach - and popped a McDonald's cheeseburger in it to demonstrate how the acid tears through your food.

Be warned - it's not exactly appetising.

The video is actually years old, but has got a sudden surge in social activity in the last few days. We'd never seen it before, and maybe you haven't either.

Worth a watch.

As the lab scientist notes, your stomach does a better job of digesting fat and other materials because of the several types of biological enzymes we have - like lipase.

But it's still cool to see the acid reaction, in action.
