Well, this really is up there with the all-time bad ideas.
A passenger on a US Airways flight from Philadelphia to the Dominican Republic caused a full scale alert when he made an unbelievably ill-timed joke about having Ebola.
The 54-year-old American man sneezed and then joked that he had recently been in Africa and said: 'I have Ebola! You are all screwed'.
How stupid...
Needless to say, the crew were not impressed and, of course, had to take it seriously.
In the video description, the passenger who filmed this video described what happened next:
"Once we landed in Punta Cana we were told by the flight attendants that there was a situation and that a passenger may have been in Africa and had Ebola. She was certain it was a hoax but they did not take any chances and had a full hazmat crew board the plane and take the passenger off.
"It was later confirmed that the passenger was never in Africa and after 2hrs we were finally able to get off the plane."
It was reported that as the disgruntled man was escorted off the plane, he protested saying: “I ain’t from Africa. S**t."
Charming.
Staff at the Punta Cana Airport said that the man was taken to a medical area for a check-up and they were satisfied it was a false alarm.
He is to be returned to the US where he will likely face more checks.
And, hopefully, a stern chat about timing.
