These Irish farmers are the cream of the crop

We were lucky enough to grab a sneak peek of the 2015 version of the Irish Farmers Calendar.

Leading our page is Mr April Conor Walsh, who hails from the home of the All-Ireland Hurling champions Kilkenny.

The calendar hits shops in October and is available now online at http://www.farmercalendar.com at a cost of €11.65.

If the pictures are anything to go by they may be harder then a needle in a haystack to get.

September: Conor Walsh, Andrew Harper also from Kilkenny and Gerard Dempsey from Kildare

Most importantly part of the profits go to supporting Irish charity Bóthar, who use livestock for development aid in some of the world’s poorest countries.

Bóthar are not involved in the production of the calendars, which are the brainchild of Ciara Ryan, but are delighted to accept the substantial donation Ryan makes to them every year.

Speaking to breakingnews.ie Ciara said, “The inspiration came when I was working in a newsroom at a paper and I saw the success of fireman calendars.”

“So I thought ‘Hey what about farmers’.”

This year is the sixth time the calendar has been released, with sales growing steadily year-on-year.

Bóthar plan to use any donations they receive, from the calendar or from the public, on their upcoming Rwanda airlift appeal.

Deirdre Ryan of Bóthar explained the appeal to breakingnews.ie: “We have an appeal out right now for funds for the transportation, training and veterinary back-up costs associated with equipping families in Rwanda with an Irish Dairy Heifer.

“The farming community here in Ireland are tremendously supportive and have generously pledged the animals for Rwanda. What we need now is the funds to complete the placement and we are asking the public for their support,” said Ryan.

In the calendar you will spot alpaca farmer Terry Gill starring as Mr July.

Terry married RTÉ News presenter Aengus Mac Grianna in June of this year.

We can certainly see these calendars cropping up (sorry) in offices and bedrooms around the country.

You can donate to Bóthar at this link.
