After welcoming US Vice President Joe Biden to Áras an Uachtaráin, Michael D had the small matter of supporting our brave soccer team in France during their epic 1-0

Didn’t we all felt the same last night?

For his part the President released a statement congratulating Ireland for reaching the last 16 of Euro 2016 last night. He even thoughtfully praised Northern Ireland for their massive achievement of qualifying as well.

“Tonight’s game was a wonderful achievement and I want to extend my warmest congratulations to the Republic of Ireland team, the coaches and all those who made this well deserved success possible,” said Higgins.

“All of those interested in soccer will welcome the fact that now both Irish teams have made it through to the knock out stages of the tournament, and remain in contention for the Henri Delaunay cup.

“May I pay tribute to the Irish fans who have earned widespread acclaim for their behaviour in France. Ireland could not wish for better ambassadors abroad.”

The President has yet to decide on if he will run for a second term in office and it would seem he'd walk in given the love that’s out there for him at the moment.

Although, he’s lucky Robbie Brady can’t run until he’s 35.
