It’s the last Bank Holiday weekend of the summer and while usually we would look forward to a nice long weekend of beer gardens and beaches, the Irish weather has other plans for us.
Damp ones.
As we’re all painfully aware, it’s been a pretty miserable July and, with August arriving tomorrow, that doesn’t look set to change.
Let’s look at what Met Eireann have to say.
It’s going to be pretty cloudy and wet today with rain in western areas spreading eastwards across the country during the day. The north-west will bear the brunt with persistent, heavy and possibly thundery rain will be most persistent. Elsewhere the rain will be lighter.
But still wet.
“It will be another cool day with temperatures only reaching 14 to 16 degrees and southwesterly winds will increase moderate to fresh. A clearance to isolated showers will reach the west by evening.”
But things will clear up this evening, right?
Right?
“Tonight, persistent and locally heavy rain will affect eastern and southern areas.”
Oh.
Things will improve somewhat overnight and tomorrow morning will see a dry start to the southern half of the country with some sunny spells. Enjoy them while you can as clouds and drizzle will start moving in later on in the afternoon. In the northern half of the country, it’s looking like a wet, cloudy and miserable Saturday with heavy rain in places.
Saturday night will see heavy rain creeping in from the west over the rest of the country.
But Sunday has to be better? It has the word ‘sun’ in its name!
We’ll let Met Eireann break the news.
"Persistent and prolonged rain is likely to affect the western half of the country during the day and evening with heavy falls in Atlantic coastal counties."
There will be be some dry intervals in the east - “but cloudy with outbreaks of rain or drizzle there too”.
Ok, we get it. It’s a bust. Just tell us about Monday and then leave us be.
“Winds will increase further on Bank Holiday Monday due to a nearby Atlantic depression, which is likely to bring strong to gale force southerly wind.
“There is potential for heavy showers especially in western areas, while parts of the east could see more dry intervals. The southerly winds will bring a milder airmass and with a chance of some sunny spells in between showers it will become a little warmer with highs of 16 to 19 degrees.”
So… anything good on in the cinema?
