Beat’s Emma Nolan, who presents The Takeover, wanted to ensure she was more "in the moment" with her listeners who sat exams, so she sat this year’s Junior Cert English, Irish and Maths papers.
Emma admitted she was most nervous about her Ordinary Level Maths paper and the pressure was on with English Higher Level, because she is an honours English degree graduate from University of Limerick.
Nerve rackingly the station’s CEO, Gabrielle Cummins, revealed Emma's results live on air on the Beat Breakfast this morning. So how did she do?
After the big reveal, Gabrielle congratulated Emma on the impressive results and said: “I don’t think there are many adults who would turn back the clock and re-sit their junior cert so everybody here at Beat has been really impressed by Emma’s dedication to this social experiment – she really put her head down and worked hard so fair play to her – I feel like a proud Mammy!”
She's not wrong there!
Head of Station Sound, Niall Power, said Emma’s show was the perfect platform to carry out a social experiment of this nature.
He said: "We also just want to say a massive thanks to teachers from her old school Blackwater Secondary School in Lismore County Waterford who came on board to provide one on one tutorials. Throughout the seven weeks of this experiment, we also had fellow exam students volunteering to come live on air and online on our social media forums to provide Emma with their exam tips, so a massive thanks to them and congratulations to everyone receiving their results today."
Emma hopes to celebrate in style with fellow students when Beat 102-103 hosts a massive results party this Friday night at Waves nightclub in Dungarvan where Emma herself will be spinning the tunes.
