Ryan Gosling eats his cereal in tribute to cancer victim

McHenry created the popular "Ryan Gosling won't eat his cereal" meme.

Ryan McHenry, a popular comedian on Vine who made his name with amusing clips of super-celeb Ryan Gosling, lost his battle to bone cancer on Sunday - and Gosling has stepped in to pay tribute.

McHenry had made his internet fame with the "Ryan Gosling won't eat his cereal" meme - a collection of brilliantly-timed juxtapositions which show that, indeed, Gosling will not eat his cereal.

27-year-old McHenry died of osteosarcoma – a variant of bone cancer – after two years of fighting the disease, often sharing his experience publicly and with humour.

Just a few weeks ago, Gosling tweeted that he "actually loves cereal" and, in a good-natured exchange with McHenry, tweeted he'd never forgive him for creating the meme.

But in a tribute to the man following his death, Gosling himself tweeted a six-second Vine (McHenry's chosen format) of himself, at long last, accepting his cereal.

The raising of the spoon as though a toast is a lovely touch.

Accompanying the video, Gosling tweeted "My heart goes out to all of Ryan McHenry's family and friends. Feel very lucky to have been apart of his life in some small way."

Fans of McHenry have created a charity donation page for Sarcoma UK (a sarcoma being a cancer of the connective tissue) - which has already raised over £3,000.
