Random Irish kid crashes Muhammad Ali's birthday

What would you do if you were told Muhammad Ali's house was across the street?

For one Donegal plumber working in the US, he strolled right on over and knocked on the door - only to blag an invite to the great man's 72nd birthday party.

That's what happened to Greencastle kid Tony Kelly on Friday last, and here's the picture to prove it (Ali's on the right).

Tony, 24, was working on a house in Louisville, Kentucky - where he has lived since 2012 - when his workmates told him that the house across the road was one of many owned by the famous pugilist.

Bold as brass, Tony marched on over and rapped on the door which was answered by Ali's wife Yolanda.

As it happened, the boxing legend was celebrating his 72nd birthday on Friday.

“I told her I was one of his greatest Irish fans and I’d love to meet him," Tony told the Irish Examiner.

"With that she invited me in to meet him. It was amazing — something I will never forget until the day I die,” Tony said.

“She told me that Muhammad was unavailable at the moment and to call back in an hour’s time and that he would be delighted to meet one of his Irish fans as he is proud of his Irish heritage.

"An hour later I called back and was welcomed in to their home.”

The meeting didn't disappoint, Tony told The Examiner.

“Muhammad was sitting on his chair," he said.

" I introduced myself and said hello and he said hello back. We posed for a few pictures.

"All my friends said how lucky I was as they spend very little time in that house and it was just a case of right place, right time."
