Ah go on…

Play at Electric Picnic by entering this Father Ted inspired song contest

If you have musical talent and a funny bone this is a great way of getting a ticket to Electric Picnic 2016 as well as a chance to be a part of a wild experience.

Electric Picnic are running a Father Ted inspired song contest called ‘A Rubbish Song For Europe’.

The contest is to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Father Ted Episode ‘My Lovely Ranch’ which of course featured the hit song ‘My lovely horse’.

The idea of the competition to create the successor to the trashy, satirical Eurovision hopeful song from 1996.

Neil Hannon, who provided the melody for the infamous track ‘My Lovely Horse’ has gotten behind the competition urging people to get involved: “It’s your big chance, don’t screw it up.”

Mr Hannon along with Cathy Daveys has also submitted an entry to the competition to get the ball rolling.

Judges are looking for a simple home-produced video uploaded to YouTube and entered on the application.

Videos must be under two minutes long with ‘no-holes barred’ production values, evidence of musical talent and a vigorous dress sense.

Judges are looking for an original –or badly plagiarised composition- with a performance bearing the hallmarks of a tight budget.

You have until July 1 to upload a video and your chances of being shortlisted significantly increase if you donate a subscription fee of €10 to My Lovely Horse Rescue Charity.

Fifteen songs will be selected to perform at Electric Picnic 2016, in My Lovely Ranch at Trailer Park.

The selection process includes a live round either in Limerick, Galway, Kilkenny, Cork or Dublin in July or August.
