The song they are singing is 'Pokarekare ana', a traditional Maori love song sometimes called the country's unofficial national anthem.

The bill was proposed by Labour MP Louisa Wall, seen in the video receiving flowers, hugs and kisses from fellow parliamentarians.

Ms Wall told Parliament that the vote "sends New Zealand down a path of healing", according to 3news online.

"It now includes all citizens in our state institution of marriage regardless of their sex, sexual orientation or gender identity."

The last line of 'Pokarekare ana translates as "I could die / Of love (for you)".
