Meet The (new) Commitments

The cast of the new stage musical adapted from Roddy Doyle's The Commitments has been revealed. What do you reckon?

Meet The (new) Commitments

The Commitments, Roddy Doyle's novel which became an era-defining 1991 film, is headed for the stage in London as a full-on musical theatre production.

And it's time to meet the cast, with the release of the ensemble photos. They've even made things nice and easy to spot your favourite cast member's new incarnation by striking the same pose as the movie's original press shots.

Fear not, fans of the original - this is a stage musical, not a new movie, and it has Roddy Doyle's blessing - he's been involved in the project as it developed.

The company is keen to stress that, much like the original film, they tried to find new talent, and many of the cast are new faces.

"The lead role of Jimmy Rabbitte will be played by 22-year-old Denis Grindel, who is making his West End debut," they said.

"Grindel, from Dublin, studied law, but has given it all up to follow his dream of performing in the West End. He beat off several thousand hopefuls who auditioned for Roddy Doyle's new show to land the lead role."

The cast includes Brian Gilligan, Barny Southgate, Ben Fox, Andrew Linnie, Jessica Cervi, Denis Grindel, Matthew Wycliffe, Steph McKeon, Sarah O'Connor, Mark Dugdale, Killian Donnelly, and Joe Woolmer.

The show opens in London's Palace Theatre on 21 September.
