McDonald's is backtracking on their latest TV advert in the UK.
The advert is about a young boy asking his mother about his dead father and finding out that they both liked Filet-o-Fish sandwiches.
When the mother and son go to a McDonald's restaurant, he orders a Filet-o-Fish and his mother says, "that was your dad's favourite too".
According to the BBC, the advert has been labelled "offensive" and said to "exploit childhood bereavement" by child bereavement groups.
Sarah Fox, whose husband died two years ago, told the BBC that her seven-year-old saw the ad and it left him confused and upset.
“The advert was confusing for him and really upset him. He asked me why the boy on TV wasn’t ‘sad’ and how he could feel happy again?,” she told the BBC.
“It’s an unnecessary subject to exploit for the gain of a brand.”
McDonald's has apologised for the advert.
“We apologise for any upset this advert has caused. This was by no means an intention of ours.”
