Mayo County Council apologises after Tommy Tiernan dresses as priest in graveyard
Mourners paying respects in a Mayo graveyard have complained after they found Tommy Tiernan walking around dressed as a priest and holding a fake coffin.
The scenes were all a part of RTÉ comedy series, The Hardy Bucks which the comedian is currently starring in.
According to the Independent.ie, several members of the parish contacted local priest Fr Padraig Costello to complain about the behaviour which they felt was disrespectful.
It was then widely debated whether or not the production company behind the show, Hardy Film had received permission to film at the location.
Since then, Mayo County Council have confirmed that they had granted the permission to the crew and they “regret any upset felt by the local community”.
“The County Council did give permission for the filming subject to certain conditions all of which were met by the production company or their agents,” Marie Crowley, Head of Ballina Municipal District said to the Independent.ie.
“We regret any upset felt by the local community and acknowledge the sensitivities around this type of activity particularly in a graveyard setting.”
Hardy Film producers, Michael Caine have also said that everything “was above board” and they had made sure not to feature any headstones or graves in the shots”, due to the sensitivity of the location.
