Proposing to your girlfriend is enough to make any man nervous, so throw in an armed robbery and you'll understand Nicholas Anderson had a stressful night recently.
Nicholas had planned to pop the question to Deanna Deal in a Mexican restaurant called Salsarita’s, chosen by the bride-to-be's son, Brighton.
Little did they know that it was to be robbed for the third time this month.
As they sat down to enjoy their meal, and Nicholas plucked up the courage to ask the question, the restaurant manager went to lock the door.
Nicholas said: "The guy behind the manager pushed him out of the way and unlocked the door."
Not one to stand idly by, Nicholas grabbed the armed robber, Graham Wilson Kiziah, got him in a chokehold, put him out cold and called the police.
"It happened really quick. He knew how to handle the situation," said Deal.
Realising that the restaurant was no place to propose, Nicholas and Brighton reverted to a back-up plan, a proposal in a nearby park.
Nicholas said: "After all that happened, asking her to marry me wasn't near as bad."
And, of course, she said yes.
