Love is in the Éire: Stars tweet their ’grá’ for Ireland after referendum results

Stars of the stage and silver screen across the world have taken to twitter to express their love after Ireland became the first country to legalise same-sex marriage by popular vote.

From Russell Crowe to Stephen Fry, celebrities have been showing their love and respect for our little island which proved yesterday it had a big heart.

Over the course of the two days, over 400,000 tweets have been sent using the hashtag #MarRef.

According to the good people at Twitter, conversation peaked at around 9.30am and 10.20am as the initial tallies were coming in and the Yes vote emerged on top.

Ireland's own Chris O'Dowd was just one of many celebrities to join in the Twitter celebrations.

 

 

The only constituency to vote against the marriage equality referendum was Roscommon/South Leitrim and Chris had a very strong message for them as well.
