Members of the Irish Air Corps had a brush with celebrity yesterday when they bumped into none other than musical superstar Pharrell Williams (complete with trademark daft hat) while on a medical mission to the UK yesterday.
The crew of an Air Corps AW139 chopper had been transferring a patient from Casement Aerodrome in Dublin to Birmingham Airport for life-saving treatment in the UK when they were approached by the 'Happy' singer.
"Pharrell actually approached us when he saw the uniforms and the equipment moving through the airport," said Air Corps pilot, Captain Seán McCarthy from Carlow.
Pharrell, who last week played in Dublin's Marlay Park with Kanye West, "was very modest and thanked us for a job well done", Capt. McCarthy said.
"He said he was travelling onto Geneva for the next part of his tour and when he was leaving said 'keeping saving those lives!"
The Air Corps have completed over 50 inter-hospital transfers of this nature so far this year, utilising the Lifeport stretcher system for oxygen and electrical supply to ensure full medical care in transit.
It's safe to say this is one that will stick in the memory though!
