Thinking of peeing in the river? This will make you think again.
The city of Portland, Oregon in the US has had to dump nearly 38 MILLION gallons of water after a teenager peed into the city reservoir.
He was one of a group of teens that trespassed at the reservoir overnight. The act has enraged locals and conservationists.
The teen was cited for public urination. He and his two mates have also been cited for trespassing.
Explaining the need to get rid of all the water, Portland Water Bureau administrator David Shaff told the Oregonian newspaper that the authority simply had to do it.
“Even though there is very minimal public health risk, the bottom line is that our commitment is to serve water that’s clean, cold and constant. That doesn’t include pee. Not from people, at least.”
“It’s stupid. You can see the sign that says: ‘This is your drinking water. Don’t spit, throw, toss anything in it.’ He’s four feet away from that sign. Unless he’s from North Dakota and just moved here, he’s got to know that’s our drinking water.”
