An Irish emigrant home for his first Christmas in three years has advised anyone returning abroad to "hug your mammies well, stock up on the Barry's, and try to enjoy your last few days here as much as possible because there really is no place like here".
Thexton adds in a Reddit post: "You really don't appreciate this mad feckin country until you leave it...No matter all the bollox with government, or the shite weather, or your mammy telling you another person you never met before is dead, this is home more than any other home ever will be."
In a sentiment likely echoed by hundreds of people preparing to leave home again after spending Christmas with family, Thexton says: "Maybe I didn't get time to get sentimental in the pub. Maybe no one will read it but I had to say something, somewhere. Goodbye lads."
