Comedian John Oliver explains tomorrow's Scottish independence vote for foreigners

Tomorrow, on Thursday September 18, Scotland will take a vote on its independence from the United Kingdom, in one of the most important democratic actions the country has ever seen.

But the average Séan or Sinéad might not have been following the story. And let's face it, Irish history classes are far more concerned with our own history of colonisation by England than their relationship with anyone else.

Enter comedian John Oliver. The Englishman known on this side of the pond for Mock the Week now has his own satirical news show, Last Week Tonight, in the US. And he's rounded up all the recent events in a neat, humorous package.

Obviously, there's far more to the independence vote than this, but it does hit some nails squarely on the head. The video has clocked up an amazing 1.75 million views in two days since it aired - and is clearly striking a chord with viewers.

We have been, and will continue, to cover the independence vote in our World news section.
