Devoted husband records song for his wife as present for their golden anniversary

Arnold Walker, who is 78 years old, penned a romantic tune for his wife Carol on their 50th wedding anniversary.

However, it has taken Arnold seven years to record the song - which recounts the first time the happy couple met - so that they don't forget it.

Arnold, from Aberdeen, Washington, USA, was having lunch with a friend of his back in 1959 when in walked Carol with a girl his friend knew.

They lunched together in the cafe near his air force base in Florida, and when they went to pay the cheque Arnold asked her out.

Arnold recalls: "I saw she'd just been paid from her job at Sears and I said she should pay to take me for lunch. She laughed and told me to another time."

He admits that he went back to the cafe five times before seeing her again. "Which is when I said I would pay for lunch," he says, "She said yes, and that’s how our life together began."

His song tells about their first date at a drive-in movie before he declares in his ballad that he would repeat his time with his beloved wife all over again.

Arnold said: "I wrote the song in about half an hour when Carol had gone out to get groceries for our golden anniversary BBQ.

"That was seven years ago, but I wanted to have a record of it in case we both forgot."

He offered up some simple advice that has kept them together.

He said: "Over the years we have had our ups and downs, but every couple does. We have a pact to never go to bed mad at each other.

"It has worked so far."
