Couple build 'superbed' big enough to sleep them and eight rescue dogs

Some dog owners can go to great lengths to accommodate their best friends, but I bet there's not many that would build a 'superbed' to share with their canine amigos.

Chris and Mariesa Hughes run a dog rescue centre in New York, called The Mr. Mo Project, and found that they weren't able to sleep comfortably in their normal bed because their eight dogs took up most of the space.

Chris said: "When we go to bed, all of the dogs try to beat us there and take up all the space on the bed. We didn’t want to allow one dog and not the other so we would manage and often times wake up needing a hip replacement."

So they turned to Michael’s Custom Interiors, to build a bed that could fit them all in.

What they came up with is a mega-bed that takes two king-size mattresses and is 14 feet long and seven feet wide.

Since it was installed, the couple's bedtimes have been transformed.

Chris said: "Having this bed allows all of the dogs to not only sleep on the bed with us but to also allow us to sleep comfortably.’

"We are sleeping very well. Each one of the dogs has his or her spot and it makes it easy now."

It also features under-bed storage, plus a little set of stairs for the dogs who have trouble jumping up on to the bed.

Chris told told metro.co.uk that the dogs have also given their seal of approval: "They love it, they love the space.

"While they always want to be as close to us and each other as they can, they respect our space now and we’re all able to get a good night’s sleep."
