This is absolutely beautiful. World-renowned performance artists Cirque du Soleil created this beautiful short film of dance and light choreography using small, lightweight drones - and not a drop of CGI.
'Sparked' is the short story of an electrician who, in the midst of a power failure, finds himself meeting some living, unexplainable lampshades that come to life. The results - a mixture of dance and digital choreography - is hugely impressive.
The drones are controlled by computer, which is how they all move in perfect unison and go eexactly where they're supposed to. But this kind of creative use of small flying devices fro theatre is an excellent proof-of-concept, and there's no reason why groups like Cirque de Soleil couldn't do this in live shows.
The performance group teamed up with ETH Zurich, a flying machine laboratory behind the synchronisation technology. The behind-the-scenes video is fascinating watching.
