*UPDATE at 11am*
Cian has since apologised and deleted the tweet which provoked criticism from Repeal the 8th campaigners, saying he didn't understand the significance of the blue wall.
Sorry for any offence caused. no political slamming on my part, nor none intended. But cheers for your lovely messages 👍

Ignorance on my part to what the "blue wall" was. Merely reacted to seeing it all over my timeline.

Rugby star Cian Healy has found himself the focus of anger from Repeal the 8th supporters after a tweet apparently aimed at the recently-removed mural at the Project Arts Centre.

The mural, created by artist Maser in support of the Repeal campaign, was the centre of controversy recently after Dublin City Council issued a warning notice stating that the work is in violation of planning rules. On, Monday, the mural was painted over.

Last night, the rugby prop tweeted the following which many saw as a dig at those taking photos in front of the now completely blue wall to voice their disapproval of the decision:
"Ya ain't alternative unless you're in front of a blue wall these days" followed by an eyeroll emoji.
Which provoked a backlash from those who thought he was making light of the movement to repeal.

This is not the first time a tweet has landed Healy in hot water - last year, he tweeted this ahead of a Gay Pride event.
So I'm going to a kesha gig at pride in Hollywood tonight... Should be interesting! #BacksToTheWall 😂
