Well done us.

18% pick up gifts throughout the year, only one in four complete Christmas shopping in December.

Now if you are yet to brave the shops and a shudder of panic or guilt just came over you, fear not.

In fact, a round of applause for those 1.4% of us who work best under pressure and will hit the shops at the 11th hour on Christmas Eve.

From the flustered nonsensical boyfriends, husbands and sons alike flocking to the local jewellers to the last minute lassies spraying every scent in the fragrance section of Boots wondering is it ’him’ enough.

If you are in the 1.4% bracket, best of luck and go forth with calm and appreciation for the retailers who accommodate you on Christmas Eve!

The survey also found that, naturally, we are a generous and supportive nation. We would not have it any other way.

One in ten of us spend up to €2,500 on Christmas gifts for others, a little over 25% of us spend up to €1,000, with one in three of us spending between €250 and €500 when shopping for others.

46.6% of people support businesses by shopping locally while a further 47.8% complete their Christmas wish-list thorugh both online shopping and purchasing from local shop owners.

The survey also threw in a bit of nostalgia for good measure and the results bring back great memories of present unwrapping.

The gift of Barbie and Action Man bring back the happiest memories and take the top spot as favourite toy ever received at Christmas.

Rollerblades (20%) and Gameboys (17%) are also some of the nations all-time favourite gifts with Walkie-Talkies (9%), Tomagotchi’s (7%) and Mr. Freeze Slushy Maker (5%) also making the list.

This year, Christmas FM will be raising awareness and funds for the global charity Sightsavers, who aim to give the gift of sight this Christmas, and broadcast from the Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin.

The main radio frequencies for Christmas FM are Dublin City and County 105.2FM, Cork 106.7FM, Galway 87.7FM, Kildare 88.1FM, Kilkenny 104.3FM, Clare 105.2FM, Letterkenny 105.7FM, Limerick 105.5FM, Midlands North 101.6FM, North East 99.4FM, South East 103.8FM, Tralee / Killarney 105FM, Wicklow North 99.5FM, Wicklow South 106.6FM.
