Three US multinationals to create almost 500 jobs

Almost 500 jobs are to be created by three US multinationals, it was announced today.
Tech giant HP is creating 280 new positions in a €45m investment in a research and development expansion at its Galway and Kildare operations. Recruitment for these jobs will begin immediately.
Sligo will get 175 new roles as Abbott Pharmaceutical invests €85m in a strategic expansion of its pharmaceutical plant there.
Big Fish Games expanding its cloud gaming research and development initiative in Cork with the creation of 30 highly skilled jobs.
The €130m investment is backed by IDA Ireland.
Speaking from New York, Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland, said: "Today is an excellent day with the ‘Invest in Ireland business forum’ strengthening Irish-American business links, by highlighting to US business leaders the many advantages of investing in Ireland.
"I am absolutely delighted it coincides with the announcement by 3 leading US multinationals that they will be investing further in Ireland, creating almost 500 new jobs.
"These IDA-supported investments are spread across Ireland in our target lifescience, ICT and digital media sectors."
Speaking about the vacancies at HP, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton said: "This is great news for Galway, Leixlip and Ireland, with the announcement of 150 high-end R&D jobs as well as approximately 130 related jobs in this world-leading company.
"In the coming weeks the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs will build on announcements like this to deepen the impact of multinational investment here, and target sectors like ICT where we have built substantial strengths in recent years.
"By setting ambitious targets and implementing reforms across the economy we can achieve the growth and jobs we so badly need."
