Thousands of people are expected to attend a public rally today to protest against jobs cuts at Waterford Crystal.

The demonstration is due to take place in Waterford city centre this afternoon.

Last Friday, the receiver overseeing Waterford Crystal announced an immediate halt to manufacturing operations at the company's Kilbarry plant, with the loss of around 480 jobs.

Workers have been staging a sit-in at the facility ever since.

The organisers of today's rally say they hope large numbers will attend.

Protestors will gather at AIB on Paddy Brown's Road at 3.45pm before marching down the Cork Road to the Waterford Crystal showroom car park.
