Samsung launches Galaxy S4

Samsung has launched its latest smartphone at the Radio City music hall in New York.

The Galaxy S4 includes a feature that senses when the user's finger is hovering above the screen, and a dual camera function that allows users to take simultaneous photos and videos using both rear and front cameras, which can then blend the pictures together..

A story album function allows users to create a photo album which is personalised around a timeline of special occasions and events in their lives, and lets them manage associated content such as comments on social networks, locations and weather information.

Group play lets people enjoy music, photos and games with people around them, and the Samsung “smart pause” function allows users to control the screen using their eyes.

The highly-anticipated smartphone – the fourth generation of the Galaxy S – is likely to pose a major threat to Apple and its popular iPhones.

The Korean company has a larger share of the world-wide smartphone market than its biggest rival Apple.

Technology expert Nate Lanxon from wired.co.uk said Apple must now adapt.

"Apple has always been a little reluctant to acknowledge competitors when it comes to its own innovation. I think though it must have noticed the trend towards bigger screens," he said.
