Retail Ireland is calling on the Government to ease the tax burden in the Budget.
The Ibec group, which represents the retail sector, said the Government must support consumer spending or risk derailing the fragile economic recovery.
Retail Ireland director Thomas Burke said the immediate pressure of the sterling collapse risked driving consumers north of the border.
"What we're calling on the Government to do is use the opportunity of the upcoming Budget to insulate the sector against the negative consequences of the Brexit decision and introduce measures that are business-friendly," he said.
