Pharmaceutical industry needs to adapt

A conference in Cork is being told that Ireland's pharmaceutical industry needs to change and adapt if it wants to avoid being left behind.

The industry - which supports tens of thousands of jobs in the Republic of Ireland - is responsible for as much as 40% of Irish exports.

But concern is being expressed that the business could be lost to emerging markets.

Martin Riordan - Cork County Manager - said Ireland needs to embrace new technology and invest in research to ensure the country doesn't lose out.
