There has been an over 12% jump in the number of people visiting Ireland since the start of this year.
According to new figures from the CSO this August was the best ever with more than 1.125 million arrivals recorded.
6.55 million people have arrived in Ireland since the first of the year representing a 12.3% rise in the number of overseas visitors between January and the start end of August this year.
Commenting on today’s figures from the CSO for overseas visitors to Ireland for January to August, Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Our aim is to ensure that 2016 is another record-breaking year for Irish tourism. We have seen exceptional results from North America for January to August – up +15.4% on the same eight-month period in 2015.”
Niall Gibbons continued: “This was a strong performance and reflects the sentiment we are hearing from our travel partners overseas, including tour operators and carriers, as well as tourism businesses here at home. We are determined to ensure that tourism growth continues.
