Number of new car registrations up 25% in February

New car registrations for February were up 25% on the same month last year, according to new figures.

The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) says almost 16,000 new cars were registered last month.

However, registrations of Heavy Commercial Vehicles were down 20% in February compared to last year.

SIMI is blaming the fall on the New Vehicle Approval system - which it claim has been delaying registrations.
