New car registrations went up 10% in April, when compared to the same month last year.

New car registrations went up 10% in April, when compared to the same month last year.

Over 10,400 new cars were registered.

While new car registrations this year to date are up 26% on the same period last year, at 93,240.

Commenting on the figures Alan Nolan Director General of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry said they are a sign of “the progress of the economy”.

“Vehicle registrations are a very accurate barometer for the progress of the economy with the new car statistics reflecting the position of consumers while business activity and confidence can be seen in the commercial vehicle sales,” said Nolan.

“Registrations from the different sectors continue to perform well, as we progress towards more normal levels of sales for our Industry.”
