Media's coverage of property ownership under scrutiny at banking inquiry

The coverage of property ownership during the boom by the media comes under scrutiny at the banking inquiry later.

The Oireachtas Banking Inquiry will begin hearing from the editors of national newspapers and RTE today, and from experts from UCD and DIT.

The committee will consider the role in mainstream media for scepticism about the sustainability of the housing boom, or the strength of the broader economy.

It will also look at potential conflicts of interest among media organisations, and the promotion of property ownership.
