A development which represents the single largest dairy investment in the history of the state is being opened today.
Glanbia will officially open a new nutritional ingredients plant in county Kilkenny.
The 185 million euro facility will produce ingredients for baby formula, to supply markets in Asia, South America, Africa and the Middle East.
The CEO of Glanbia Ingredients Ireland, Jim Bergin, said the development comes ahead of a unique opportunity for Ireland’s export market, with the removal of EU milk quotas, at the start of next month.
"What it's doing is unlocking the huge capacity of the Irish dairy farmers who have been stagnant for about 30 years now.
"It really is a great opportunity. Ireland is a significant exporter, so this is an opportunity for the rural economy to help the recovery in our country and to build on an industry in which we have quite a comparative advantage."
