Calls for a "Living Wage" for Irish workers are being discussed at the Biennial Delegate Conference of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
The three-day event, which will be attended by over 700 delegates, gets underway today in Ennis, Co Clare.
Congress represents around 750,000 workers north and south of the border.
The economy and low-hour contracts will also be on the agenda, as well as public services and the TTIP trade deal.
"The only way to boost real, genuine, economic recovery is to boost people's incomes," said ICTU spokesman Macdara Doyle.
"By boosting people's incomes, you can create new demand in the economy, ensuring we have a decent - and sustainable - recovery."
