Capital assets acquisitions of €1.1bn in Q4
Capital acquisitions in Irish industry in the fourth quarter of 2004 were €1.133bn, compared with €1.18bn in the fourth quarter of 2003, according to the Central Statistics Office.
The major contributor to the total figure was acquisitions of machinery and equipment, which amounted to €867.1m in the fourth quarter of 2004, following on a fourth-quarter 2003 level of €884.0m.
Land and buildings acquisitions were €155.6m, down from €202.5m in the fourth quarter of 2003. Total capital sales were €135.5m, compared with €158.3m in the fourth quarter of 2003.
The breakdown of the components of acquisitions into the different industrial sectors shows that the highest level of acquisitions of machinery and equipment was recorded in the electricity and gas supply sector with a level of €348.1m in the fourth quarter of 2004, compared with €435.3m for the same quarter in the previous year.
The highest level of acquisitions of land and buildings was in thechemical products sector, which accounted for €46.2m in the fourthquarter of 2004.
This has decreased from the fourth-quarter 2003 levelof €77.8m.
