ISME welcomes extension of Employment Subsidy Scheme

10/11/2009 - 13:22:14
The Irish Small & Medium Enterprises Association, ISME, has welcomed the decision to extend eligibility criteria to non-exporting firms for the Employment Subsidy Scheme.

ISME Chief Executive, Mark Fielding, said: "The scheme will not only benefit exporting companies but also assist domestically based businesses who require urgent assistance to maintain jobs."

Mr Fielding outlined that there were a number of key lessons that need to be addressed from the initial tender, which resulted in the number of application being less than anticipated.

He said: "The criteria and application procedure need to be simplified to achieve the maximum number of applicants. There is no doubt that the demand is there for this initiative but the present procedure is bureaucratic and complex."
