ISEQ down more than 2%

The value of Irish shares plunged by more than 2% in morning trading today, as the ISEQ index of Irish shares was down 65.65 points to 3,187.15.

The value of Irish shares plunged by more than 2% in morning trading today, as the ISEQ index of Irish shares was down 65.65 points to 3,187.15.

The financials all fared badly. Irish Life and Permanent was the worst performer, losing 13c to €5.62. Allied Irish Banks was down 9c to €2.58, with Bank of Ireland falling 7c to €2.65.

The construction sector was doing worse, with CRH plummeting 48c to €18.87. Grafton Group lost 12c to €3.48, and Kingspan fell 10c to €6.

Paddy Power and Smurift Kappa both fell 18c to €22.50 and €6.10 respectively. DCC and Elan both fell 10c to €17.95 and €4.30 respectively.

Tullow Oil was the other main faller (down 33c to €13.50) in a morning bereft of any gains of significance.
