ISEQ continues slide despite early gains

The ISEQ index surrendered early gains today as it continued its slide, closing down 35.37 at 5798.49.

Mirroring yesterday's trade, the financials bore the brunt of the losses. Bank of Ireland shares plummeted 35c to close at €11.65.

Irish Life & Permanent shares fell 19c to €13.05, while AIB shares closed down 16c at €15.69. Anglo Irish's losses were relatively light as it lost 4c to €9.41.

Meanwhile Irish pharmaceutical company Elan today announced its first quarter 2005 financial results, with $74.7m (€57.8m) net operating losses for the quarter.

Despite this shares in the company have climbed 19c today to €3.50.

Independent News & Media shares have edged 1c higher to €2.36. INM today announced it has agreed to sell its shareholding in iTouch to For-side.com for €100m.

Gas and oil company Aminex is unchanged on the ISEQ at 15c. Aminex today announced a loss of $4.4m (€3.4m) for its preliminary results for 2004.
